A reference among the Hostels in Madrid. Santa Cruz Hostel has been fully refurbished in the year 2004. All the rooms with bathroom. A referencial Madrid Hostel. It is in condition to offer a great comfort and an nice rest. Placed just 20mts from the Plaza Mayor, 50 from the Puerta del Sol and a few minutes walking to the most important museums of the city, Prado, Thyssen, Reina Sofia and the historical zone of the city Madrid de los Austrias, where you can visit the Royal Palace, The Plaza Mayor, the Almudena cathedral, etc. Its situation allows the visitor to enjoy a variety of leisure options, bars, pubs, discos, cinemas, theatres, restaurants, all of them available just walking.

From the airport By underground, you have to change twice (three lines) go to Sol (several alternatives). In Sol take the Calle Mayor Exit, walk for about 20/30 mts and turn on the left in the Calle Esparteros, this ends in the Plaza Santa Cruz.(Price: single ticket 1,15€, ticket of 10, less than 6€). By Taxi, aproximately 20 minutes (depends on the traffic) its arround 25-30€. Take the highway N-II to Madrid, this will bring you to Avenida de America, continue straight on to Paseo de la Castellana, turn left until you reach Cibeles. In Cibeles turn right, there are two streets, take the one to the left which brings you to Sol. (See underground) From Atocha Train Station By underground, direct line to Sol. Once in Sol take the Calle Mayor Exit, walk for about 20/30 mts and turn on the left in the Calle Esparteros, this ends in the Plaza Santa Cruz. (Price: single ticket 1,15€, ticket of 10, less than 6€). By Taxi drive up Atocha, turn on the right to Plaza Santa Cruz. We strongly recommend to use the underground in Madrid, it is the fastest way to reach the centre of Madrid as the traffic in Madrid is very dense during most of the day and it is common to get in the middle of a traffic jam.

Amazing location, lovely clean rooms. The quality for this price is exceptional. Really opened my eyes to stay in a hostal rather than hotel in Madrid. It can be quite noisy outside as it is a city and the walls are paper thin inside but we both sleep with ear plugs so we were absolutely fine!

Great location. Very nice and professional staff. I have stayed here many times. Nice to have the elevator when arriving with luggage. Tiny showers but normal for a hostel. Nice cafe in the plaza directly in front of the building entrance - not related to the hostel but perfect for afternoon drink after a day of sightseeing.

Bien dans l'ensemble, bien situé, très propre. Un peu bruyant (surtout la nuit de samedi à dimanche) , la chambre étant à côté de la cage d'escalier; les portes, dont celles de l'ascenseur, grincent et le bruit résonne dans tout l'immeuble.

El baño es muy pequeño. Se oía ruido de abrir y cerrar puertas, y timbre, ya que las habitaciones estaban muy juntas. Si te sentabas en el borde de la cama se vencía y volcaba. Por lo tro lado, no se oía nada del exterior, la ubicación excelente, la limpieza perfecta, y la cama muy muy cómoda.

El hostal está bien en general, el problema para nosotros fué que nos dieron una habitacion interior muy pequeña con una cama de matrimonio tambien pequeña y que no se podia ni caminar en la habitacion.y si abres la ventana, da a un patio interior que es muy agobiante y está todo lleno de polvo, con lo cual es mejor dejarla cerrada.Ese tipo de habitacion tan pequeña no admite mas de una cama para una persona.por lo demas el hostal esta bien, el personal es muy amable, y el sitio está bien .

Everything fine for this price. The only thing ist that it is hard to make a double bed out of 2 single. Gap between ths beds is widening during night. You could add anti slipping pads under the feets of your beds to overcome the problem.

My only slight complaint is that the WIFI was sometimes intermittent. It would drop fairly frequently, sometimes for hours at a time, so doing emails in the evening before bed was sometimes difficult. But the price and location are very good, and the place was clean and the bed was comfortable, so overall a very good experience.

Estuve alojado en este hostal en Diciembre. A pocos metros de la puerta del sol y calles principales de Madrid. La plaza mayor a 1 minuto del hostal. Estuve en una habitación triple, bastante amplia y el baño también amplio. El servicio genial por parte de los dueños. Lo recomiendo a todo el mundo

Su ubicacion es excelente. El trato de sus dueños es el mejor y si tienes algun problema te ayudan a resolverlo. Habitaciones muy comodas y limpias.Muy recomendable.

Localizado a dos cuadras de la Plaza Mayor, en un parque tranquilo y tradicional de Madrid. Caminas 4 cuadras y estás en el Mercado de San Miguel para tapear... - Es económico, limpio, y el personal muy amable.

I enjoyed everything about my stay, the people were nice, the location was great the rooms were nice. Just one issue. the father smoked constatnly in his office which of coure smoked drifted up into the other rooms. It the morning the smoke would drift under the bed room door , so this what wakes you not the nice smell of coffee.

Todo perfecto. Buen trato, limpieza, precio y ubicación. Lo único negativo fué coincidir con algunos turistas muy mal educados e incívicos, que apenas nos dejaron dormir las dos primeras noches. A parte de ese incidente, todo genial.

This was my third time to stay at Hostal Santa Cruz and it was excellent again. I stayed in a small single room. Nothing fancy. Very clean. The location cannot be beat.
